How does Dell Voice work?

Is the Dell Voice service free?
Yes. It is free to register and download the Dell Voice Mobile and Desktop Application. You also receive a free Canadian phone number which you can use with your Dell Voice service. Who provides Dell Voice?

How do I download Dell Voice?
Dell Voice is free to download and is available for Android and Apple devices as well as Windows PC. Dell Voice can be found on Google Play and Apple App Store. PC users can download the desktop app from the Dell Voice website homepage.
How do I register for Dell Voice?
To register your Dell Voice account, simply download the app on Android, iOS or Windows PC and follow the in-app registration process.
My internet connection dropped during my registration, what can I do?
To pick up registration close to where you left off, either log into Dell Voice with the email address and password you entered during registration, or click on the link from your email address confirmation email.
Can I use my account on more than 1 device?
Yes, but only if you are logged into one device at a time.
Note: if you have a Fongo home phone service, you require a different account for your Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA).
Can I travel with my Dell Voice service?
Yes. Both the Dell Voice smartphone and desktop application can be used anywhere in the world where you have an available internet connection. Avoid expensive carrier long-distance and data roaming charges by making international calls to Canada using WiFi.
How do I contact Fongo for technical support?

How much data does Dell Voice use?
When you are connected on a call, Dell Voice uses 1 MB per minute. 1MB = 1 minute of talk time. Turn your data into voice. 200MB of your data is equivalent to 200min of anytime talk on your carriers network when you use Dell Voice. When you are not on a call the app uses a minimal amount of data to listen for incoming calls.
Do I really get a free Canadian phone number?
A free new Canadian phone number is immediately assigned upon registration. There are no fees to obtain this number, however you must ensure that you use your Dell Voice service at least once every 90 days, or purchase a VoIP Unlock Key to ensure this number remains yours, otherwise it may be removed from your account.
Can I get a phone number anywhere in Canada?
Yes. Fongo offers phone numbers across its network which covers the majority of Canada. During registration, you’ll be given the opportunity to select a phone number from many available Canadian cities. If you have friends or family that live in a different province or city than you, feel free to get a number for their calling area so that when they call you it’s a local call.
Can I keep my Dell Voice number forever?
Yes. You can keep your Dell Voice numbers as long as you wish as long as you use your Dell Voice service at least once every 90 days, or purchase a VoIP Unlock Key.
How can I let friends know about my new phone number?
Invite friends to use Dell Voice by clicking the Invite Friends link on the website. If you are using the mobile application, use the Invite Friends button from the Account tab to send an SMS, email, post to Facebook or Twitter, or use the Invite Friend button on a Contact Detail to send an SMS or email.
Can I use my existing phone number with Dell Voice?
Yes. If you have an existing phone number you wish to use with the Dell Voice service, you may Port your number. Number porting generally takes 2-4 weeks to complete. Please Contact Fongo for more information on using an existing phone number with your Dell Voice service. Note, a cancellation fee may apply with your current provider.
Can I forward my Dell Voice number to another phone number?
Yes. Forward incoming calls to a mobile, home, cottage or a friend’s phone number for free. Dell Voice will call up to 3 separate phone numbers at the same time. If you decide not to pick up, all calls will still be answered by your free voicemail service.
Can I call any mobile or landline number?
Unlike peer-to peer apps, Dell Voice can call any mobile or landline as well as other Dell Voice numbers. Dell Voice to Dell Voice calls are always free no matter where you are in the world. Network data charges may apply.
Can I receive calls with Dell Voice?
Yes. All incoming calls on your Dell Voice phone number are free. Please note, normal data charges apply if you are using a carrier data. With Dell Voice there are no time-of-day or day-of-week restrictions.
Can I call 911 (Police, Fire, Emergency) with Dell Voice?
As a Dell Voice user in Canada you get access to VoIP 911 services. In order to use this service you must confirm that you have read and fully understand and accept the limitations of VoIP 911 in comparison to the traditional 911 service. Are there any blocked numbers?
Yes. Dell Voice does not allow dialing 0 for operator assistance, calling to 1-900 numbers, or using 10-10 dial around services.
Are there any special numbers?
Dell Voice has several Special Numbers which are available thru the service. Free special numbers include 911 – Police, Fire, Emergency and 611 – Dell Voice Technical Support. Paid Special Numbers include 411 – Directory Assistance, and will require you to purchase World Credits before usage availability.

What is Call Follow Me?
Call Follow Me is a free call forwarding service. Forward incoming calls to a mobile, home, cottage or a friend's phone number for free. The app will call up to 3 separate phone numbers at the same time, giving you the chance to answer the call on the most convenient device. You can also choose not to pick up on any of the devices. In this case, if one of the forward numbers has voicemail and answers the call, the call will go through that answering service. If the forward numbers do not have voicemail, unanswered calls will automatically be forwarded to your free Fongo voicemail service.

Yes. On both Android and Apple iOS devices, Dell Voice will notify you of incoming calls.
Can I tell when I'm using my WiFi or my carrier data plan?
Yes. Verify if you’re using a wireless signal (WiFi) or carrier data plan to place and receive calls right from the app. Look for the WiFi/Data indicator in the app, it conveniently updates when your connection changes. Switching between WiFi and data (3G/4G) during a call is not supported.
I can't make calls and I see a red dot by WiFi and data within the application, why?
You will see this if your device is not fully connected to a wireless access point (go to the web browser on your device and see if there is an agreement page you need to accept), or your device has too low a level of cellular connectivity or is connected with a cellular communication type that does not support data transfer by cell signal.
My cell phone connection works, and I can browse the internet, why can't I make calls?
Low levels of cell signal communication don’t support sending sound real-time. So, while some cell signal connections let you get to the internet, they are not efficient enough for you to carry on a conversation.
On my Android device, why is there always a Dell Voice icon in my status bar?
One part of the Dell Voice app is a service that runs in the background to listen for incoming calls to your number.
On my Android sevice, why is Dell Voice launching from my native phone dialer?
Go to the account tab in the app and unselect the “Use Dell Voice for outgoing Calls” checkbox. This option is default selected when you download the app.
On my Apple device running iOS5, why does my notification center show notifications for old incoming calls?
Apple hasn't yet given developers a way to clear specific notifications once they are in notifications list but when they do we will fix this.

When I make a call, only 1 person can hear, why?
Please make sure UDP port 13000, and TCP port 5060 are opened in your firewall and internet security suite. If you have a router, you will also need to forward these ports to the computer with the Desktop Application installed.
Why do I see the message: No connection to server?
It is important to identify if this is an issue that occurs every time you launch the Dell Voice Application. Restart your computer several times to identify if the problem persists, and if so select the "Test Connection" menu option to view the recommended procedure.
Can I change the primary port of the desktop application?

What is an ATA?
An ATA, or Analog Telephone Adapter, is a device which allows you to connect your home phone into the internet for use with the Dell Voice service.
